Department of Turkish Language and Literature Teaching
After the 3-year education institutes that train teachers for high schools were transformed into 4-year education faculties with the Higher Education Law No. 2547 enacted in 1981, Atatürk Education Institute started education under the name of Atatürk Education Faculty within Marmara University in 1982. The education period of the education faculties, which were restructured by YÖK in 1998, was increased from 4 to 5 years. Since 2014, the program has been converted back to 4 years.
With the aim of training Turkish language and literature teachers for the secondary education institutions of the Ministry of National Education, the Turkish Language and Literature Teaching Department, within the Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Social Sciences and Turkish Education, has been continuing its activities with a 4-year curriculum since 2014.
In our department, field and educational sciences courses are given together. For this reason, our graduates' undergraduate degrees also include teaching formation. Our students take some of their field education courses from our faculty members and some from M.U. They receive it from the faculty members working at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
The aim of the Turkish Language and Literature Teaching department is to train Turkish language and literature teachers for secondary schools. In addition to this main purpose, our students also acquire the notion of education acquired by students who graduate from the Turkish language and literature departments of science and letters faculties. For this reason, they can continue their postgraduate education in the field of Turkish language and literature teaching, as well as in the Turkish language and literature departments of Turkology institutes. In addition to the advantage of teaching, our graduates have the same rights as students studying in the Turkish language and literature departments of science and letters faculties.
